4 out of 5 stars Love it!   July 4, 2008

This book is great even if you're not a vegan. I'm a vegetarian contemplating veganism, my husband eats meat, and I do all the cooking. I'm not so accomodating that I'll make 2 separate meals, so I have to cook dinners that will keep us both happy. I've made a couple of Isa's recipes with great success and praise from my husband. The Chile sin Carne al Mole was fabulous! My only complaint is that I wish the book was hard cover as I know that I'll use it to death and it will get wrecked...other than that great book with all sorts of different influences and world flavours. I can't wait to try out more!

5 out of 5 stars excellent cookbook for anyone that is already comfortable in the kitchen   September 6, 2007

I absolutely love this cookbook. That being said I can see how the recipes could be a little intimidating to someone who doesn't really cook much already as they often contain lots of ingredients and steps. But never fear! If you can get over the fear of a three page recipe you will go to vegan places you have never been before. This is the cookbook that finally, finally taught me how to prepare tofu properly, make my own seitan, and actually pair dishes to make an awesome meal. Even my omni spouse loves the things I make from this cookbook!

This is my first of several vegan cookbooks, and it's the one I go back to most often. The recipes are simple, easy, and don't call for any bizzarre or pricey ingredients. The results are ALWAYS delicious!!

vegan with a vengeance...is a great cookbook, and believe me i have tried just about everyone out there, and am always looking for new ones. i have tried the following so far and they were great...fronch toast *****, tofu scramble*****, chipolte corn black bean stew was okay, didn't like the lime...chili sin carne al mole was amazing *****the cocoa in this recipe is unusual but so good! curried split pea soup was another really good recipe**** didn't like the sunny blueberry-corn muffins awful texture and not much taste, i also agree with the person above..there is just too much oil in some of the recipes, i also found the tofu dill sammiches lacking in the flavour department, the tofu ricotta is great..the pizza sauce is a little plain but good after a little tweaking, the pizza crust recipe is good and simple...the ginger-macadamia-coconut-carrot cake got rave reviews, even though i substituted walnuts for macadamias...the cajun french fries were good, but very spicy... not crazy about the taste or texture of the pesto and last but not least the peanut butter silk pie was great, i tweaked a couple of ingredients...but its good. looking forward to doing some more taste testing... one of the best vegan cookbooks i have; and i have about 30..most of which are useless...but not this one.

This was the first vegan cookbook I bought and it has not disappointed me yet. I was so excited the first time I made the Falafels. They were great! The recipes I have thus far made have been flavourful and easy to make. Isa's side notes and tips are much appreciated as are her notes on egg replacers and the recipe for Seitan rocks.

A great beginner book with a nice variety.
