Awesome :) August 13, 2010 Sevenoff I loved the book. She explained everything in a great way, went over what you would need in a vegan diet, why you should adopt one, as well as excellent recipes for future use. As for the "rare ingredients" someone mentioned, I have noticed that it's not as much that they're un-findable, you just have to make an effort. Which I'm willing to do after reading this book :).
Ugh, come on. August 3, 2010 mondayjane (Toronto, Canada) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is so poorly written it is ridiculous (bimbo chapter headings such as "Nasty Food #1: Meat!" made me want to slam the book shut immediately. And I'm a vegetarian.) Who on earth is Alicia Silverstone aside from a has-been actress? I have no idea what qualifies her to create a book on such an extreme diet and lifestyle.
There are too many excellent online resources to learn about veganism, the raw diet, macrobiotics and how to help our animal friends. I could not get through Ms. Silverstone's take on it without several serious eye-rolls.
Not what I Expected July 18, 2010 J. Hasanen (Vancouver B.C) I was excited for this book but very disappointed on many levels. For one it has far to much green info and not enough recipes. For all the info in the book you could have googled half the tips already. The recipes are alright I guess but I expected a bit more, and honestly some of these ingredients I had to look up as I have never heard of half of them. A few recipes call for truffle oil, and on most peoples budget today truffle oil isnt exactly high on our to buy list I dont care how long it lasts even if you are using it sparingly. This book is a little to gourmet for me and I would recommend any of Isa Chandra Moskowitz's books for good vegan recipes that are alot more affordable to make.
Excellent buy! June 11, 2010 Susan Young (Canada) Love this book. I use the recipes at least once a week and use what it teaches in my everyday living and cooking. It has solid inspiring information I think everyone should be informed about. What we put into our bodies and how we live our lives says a lot about who we are and how we feel about ourselves and others. This book is worth the time!
Inspiring and Sweet May 7, 2010 Lee (Canada) I'm very impressed with the way Alicia lives her life. I am already eating a plant based diet but her book has inspired me to take one step further towards health by reducing the amount of processed and convenience foods that I rely on.
