5 out of 5 stars Intense   February 11, 2009

This movie seemed slow and only somewhat intense when I watched it. I had nightmares though! It was crazy. The story is very intense and the characters well played. Fortunately they didn't have time to tell the whole story of Paul's which would have been way worse. Good buy.

3 out of 5 stars Does A Decent Job of Showing Their Depravity   January 7, 2008

I have to disagree with the previous review. I grew up and have lived all my life in the area where these horrible crimes took place. Even though I followed all the news coverage about the depravity of Paul and Karla, it's not until I saw the depiction of their reign of terror in this movie, that I understood how sick it was. Again the previous reviewer complained about accuracy and sympathy for Karla. The producers always stated that the script was based on court transcripts which are publicly available. Being a movie, they will take license with the events such as changing the names of the victims. I really don't believe the movie brought out any sympathy for her. The movie just portrayed, as recorded in court transcripts, Karla's version of events, which of course are biased. Those of us who lived though them in the eary 90's know the real truth and don't necessarily need a movie to validate what we already know.

As far as a film, it's basically a B-C level film obviously based on the actors in the roles. Based on that I give 3 stars for how it told the story, not great but not unwatchable.

1 out of 5 stars Very disapointed   August 1, 2007

My husband and I followed the story of Karla and Paul very closely whne it happened and was going through the court system here. We have read every book on the case and have to say we were very disapointed in this movie! It tried to show Karla as a victim, which she was far from being! In everything we have read or seen to date she was obviously was very much a willing participant and took pleasure in what she did. She was as much to blame as Paul was for the crimes and this movie did not portray that at all. After what she did she does not deserve any sympathy what so ever and this movie tries to get you to feel sorry for her.
