| Customer Reviews: A great little camera May 9, 2010 S. Yong 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am an amateur photographer. This camera is a great companion piece to my dSLR. It is compact and lightweight. I did check the reviews on [...] where it received glowing ratings. With great pricing from Amazon, I decided to purchase it even though it is a little short on the zoom. I had a Nikon P5000 so was used to the limited range. What I was really after is image capture at low light. After testing in dim restaurants and night shots, this camera performed better than I had expected and certainly reflected and earned its rave reviews. While battery ratings weren't stellar - I found that it worked really well for my needs. I managed to take over 3 days 200 photos, 3 videos (15sec ea#, with a lot of playback and very little flash #quite frankly, didn't need to use it much to get a good shot) without having to change the battery. The burst mode is quite slow but for the type of camera it is, it's quite good. It doesn't replace my dSLR for quick shots but it sure does work better in low light!
It is a little larger than most compacts and because of a slight lens protrusion, you will find that it is difficult to purchase a compact camera bag for it. I purchased a Lowepro Classified 30 and it is far from ideal. My cousin has his LX2 in a Lowepro Apex30.
Regarding the SilkyPix software that comes with the camera, I personally found the Nikon Picture Project software a little more intuitive. It is still quite easy to use and I managed to do everything ok without reading the manual.
All in all, I love this little camera and I've been carrying it around more than I have my Nikon D40x lately. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a smaller camera for everyday use.
A Great Little Performer March 26, 2010 Raymond Kasycz (Ottawa, Ont., Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This camera was purchased as a niche camera mainly for its well rated performance shooting under low light conditions without a flash. But it also performs very well as an easy to carry around, landscape camera. Its 24mm equivalent wide angle almost puts it in the ultra-wide angle category of camera's. It takes a good design and a quality lens to pull this off. Here is a basic summary of the main reasons for buying this model:
* Good image quality at low ISO settings
* Exceptionally bright F2.0-2.8 lens
* 24mm wide angle
* Decent high ISO performance (up to ISO 1600)
* Good battery life
