The Iomega Prestige uses a USB 2.0 interface for fast data transfers with universal compatibility. The USB 2.0 interface allows for plug-and-play simplicity with a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps. Additionally, the drive is already preformatted NTFS, so you don't have to waste time formatting to use it. The Prestige features a drive with 7200 RPM spindle speed and an 8MB or higher cache buffer. This provides performance that results in fast access speeds and low latency. I have this unit for 7 months and overall is ok. I use it with WD Live media player and it is noisy - there is chocks all the time and the sound is very annoying.
It is good for storage but it is not acceptable as a storage device for media player.

Le probleme que j'ai avec ce disque dur externe est que je dois tres souvent l'arreter et le redemarrer. En effet j'ai mis dessus toutes mes videos, musiques et photos et quand je veux visionner une video, 1 fois sur 2 pendant le visionnage, l'image se fige et je dois alors arreter le disque dur, le redemmarer pour continuer a regarder le film.
De plus il est assez bruyant, alors je ne sais pas si mon disque dur externe a un probleme a l'origine mais je vais contacter Amazon pour qu'il me le remplace car je suis tres decu de ce disque.

I purchased this drive about a month ago. I'm very pleased with this unit. I bought it to use as PVR storage for my Bell satellite receiver. It works great, just plugged it in and turned it on. No hassles no problems. It's discreet and attractive and very quiet. So far I'm not disappointed. ****

Great performance for a drive of this type. A true plug and play. No problems of any kind have been observed during the first 5 weeks of its use with a PC / Windows XP system. The drive is very quiet.

I HAVE OTHER SMALLER IOMEGA DRIVES WHICH ARE SILENT, I ASSUMED THIS WOULD BE TOO, (WRONG), I CHOSE TO TRANSFER IN MY BEDROOM OVERNIGHT WHILE I SLEPT, (HAHA) I THOUGHT IT WAS MY DOG SNORING HIS HEAD OFF, BUT IT WAS THE DRIVE MAKING LOUD KNOCKING NOISES, WHEN WORKING.
SO I ONLY USE IN OTHER ROOMS TO TRANSFER OVERNIGHT.
ALL MY OTHER DRIVES ARE COMPLETELY SILENT, SO WHATS GOING ON IOMEGA ???????
