Fairly good for the price September 9, 2010 Rob MacPherson Slow booting up, some network issues, but overall works well. This was a relacement for my original xbox modded to run XBMC. It has played everything I have thrown at it so far except for .dts audio stream files, does a great job on HD 720p files haven't tried 1080p as my TV doesnt support it.
Great product for it's price July 13, 2010 Shaf (Ottawa, Ontario) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Have been using WDTV live for 6 months now. It has frozen on me once in the time frame. Disconnecting the power and reconnecting it fixed it. For the price you pay, it's a fantastic product. I first used it with a 32 Gig USB drive, and now for the past 2 months using it on my home network and it works great. No networking issues like others have complained about.
WDTV Live is perfect for viewing downloaded hd video June 15, 2010 Noah L. Desjardins 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very satisfied with this purchase. Watching downloaded 1080p files with out getting off of your couch and without touching your computer. All you need is your computer to be networked, the folder shared and for it to be powered on. Network hard drives work in the same way but should power on automatically and two usb ports allow for two non-networked hard drives to be left directly connected and they also power on automatically. there is a great product page for this item and you can google and find it easily.
There are many more pros to this which i could list but it would be shorter to just list the cons
-limited usb ports (if you have more than 2 non-networked hard drives you have to get up and change them manually)
-remote is a bit small and doesnt have the best layout
-long power up time (light doesnt come on to register power up for 5-10 seconds)
Other than these minor things i love this product and i really makes your home theatre complete and for those who torrent and especially those with older computers that dont play hd video well this is a must own!

Great HD media player. May 1, 2010 John Doe (Vancouver, BC) Pros:
- easy to setup
- great looking videos, good selection of formats
- youtube is a nice option
- wifi option works well, can stream 720p movies over 802.11G networks
Cons:
- some video formats (from my Lumix LX3) are not supported
- playing music from an itunes library is a huge hassle (not easy to setup a playlist)
- same as above for photos in an iphoto library
- maximum fast forward is 16x
OK Player but there are better March 17, 2010 H. Truong (Vancouver) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this player for my parents so they can watch foreign shows on their TV instead of on the computer. If you download the right formats then this device works properly but most of the shows that my parents watched were in rmvb format. As the description of this product states, it doesn't play that format, which caused me problems because I had to convert files to a suitable format like wmv.
I got frustrated converting files so I searched for alternative devices. The one that I am currently using now that supports all types of formats is the Asus O!Play. The Asus even supports the VOB extensions that are found on files from DVDs.
The WD TV Live is an okay player but if you want something more complete and will give you less hassles, go with the Asus O!Play. I think the price is about the same but where I bought my Asus it was cheaper than the WD.
