| Customer Reviews: WiFi works fine with D-link N router March 29, 2010 Farkle (Ontario, Canada) Not hard to get it to work with my D-link 655 Extreme N router. Skips/pauses a bit doing HD video playback via wireless never an issue with lower bandwidth media. Definitely does not connect to XP Media Centre 2005 (Can't speak to Vista or W7 functionality) but can access most content via media lounge function. Music player interface is poorly implemented but works. Photo's are okay with a slight delay (jpegs from my D90 are 5-6 Mb).
Recommend loading TVersity media server on the PC if your using an XP machine (don't even need media centre). This identifies the PC as a media server that the DSM-750 recognizes. The bonus is that TVersity converts content on the fly so anything that will play on the PC can be streamed to the TV via this service. Makes the DSM-750 much more useful.
Nice product for tech savvy April 29, 2009 Dr. C Have had the DSM-750 for about a month now. I bought it to serve the many music and video files on my network. Have it plugged into Ethernet, so I can't comment on wifi.
Pros:
-good video compatibility (.mkv will need to be converted - even with latest firmware - to .avi or .mp4 - several quick program to do this though)
-great HD video quality
-great .mp3 playback - though the player is not the best interface
Cons:
-seems finicky about 5.1 video encoding (most of mine play in stereo)
- bad interface
-poor for viewing photos (I can use my wii for that anyway)
-does not support flash video (as my wii does with Orb)
Overall - if you have a stockpile of HD videos to play - this is a great option. Unless you have a DNLA router, you will need your computer running to use it (supports XP, or Vista Media Centre well). For general video, there are cheaper options. For HD streaming, this is a good choice - with amazing video quality.
