From Amazon.co.uk Widely credited with being the band who kicked off (and merged) the two sub-genres of punk-pop and geek rock, The Green Album is Weezer's attempt to wrestle back their crown from the upstart likes of Blink 182 and Wheatus. The Green Album, recorded nearly five years after their previous album, the widely ignored (but wholly excellent) Pinkerton, sees the band reunited with former Cars frontman Rik Ocasek, who produced their multi-platinum debut way back in 1994. The result is an album of catchy pop gems, more accessible than Pinkerton, and with a quicker pace and more sonic depth than Weezer. Though the high-pitched harmonies of former bassist Matt Sharp are missed (he left to focus on his own band, the Rentals), lead singer/songwriter Rivers Cuomo still has a way with an infectious hook and a sing-along chorus, especially on "Don't Let Go", "Photograph" and "Knockdown Drag Out". The album's first single, "Hash Pipe", kicks off with a bass-heavy, 70s-sounding metal riff, while "Island in the Sun" is as summery as its title suggests. At just over 30-minutes long, The Green Album may leave some listeners feeling a little cheated, but overall, this is a gem of an album, small yet perfectly formed. It is also a worthy return for a band whose influence is undeniable, if under appreciated. --Robert Burrow

tony moore is a dooshbag July 16, 2004 jeremy lawson This record isnt pinkerton or the blue record but I'd rather listen to this record than any of the fake, emotionless crap that dominates the commercial music world at this point...(staind,limpbizkit,lincoln park, creed, nicklebackt, ect or whatever...Hey tony lets hear one that u wrote, cause u sound like a musician without the chops who cant make it...
Novelty wears off after a few months.. and then reality hits July 15, 2004 Fork Lift (Ottawa, ON) Sure, i loved this CD when i first bought it. I actually listened to it all of the time....everywhere. But as i grew as a person and as a music enthusiast, i realized pretty quickly that this CD isnt worth getting. And then i just as quickly brought it in to my local used CD shop. The songs are catchy...real catchy. If youre just looking for a catchy CD that's fun and void of any lyrical value, then this is a great CD. If youre looking for the best of Weezer, then look elsewhere: the Blue CD and Pinkerton (especially Pinkerton) are THE BEST Weezer CDs...they have the music, they have the amazing lyrics, and they never, never, ever get old. The songs on their first two CDs are simply amazing. Youve never heard geek-rock this good, with so much to say...so much meaning...so much emotion....so much genuine feeling. Weirdly enough, i bought Pinkerton after i got the Green album. I guess that's what ruined this CD for me...i listened to Pinkerton and realized how sub-sub-sub-par the Green CD really is compared to their earlier stuff. Forget this one....it is really just average rock --- the kind of stuff that gets radio play, but isnt worth the money you pay for the music.
Un gran album - A great album June 11, 2004 L. Marcelo (Wilde Argentina) El primer disco de Weezer, me parece bueno. Realmente. Punto. No me parece un GRAN ALBUM. El 2do.....en fin....flojito...pero el 3ro....!! Qué gran álbum el Album Verde. Corto, efectivo, apasionante, delicioso...No da respiro, pega y pega, un gran tema al lado del otro. Genial. The First Weezer record is a fine one.Really is. Period. Not a GREAT ONE. The 2nd, well.....not too good...but the 3rd one....What a grat album is the Green Album! A short one, passionate, delightful...Breathless, hit and hit, one great song after another great song. A work of genius.
Hash Pipe, More like ReHash June 8, 2004 Tony Moore So Weezer for several years sat around in each of their own computer rooms writing love letters via instant messenger to japnese women in of all places Japan, whom they would most likely never meet. Now Rivers being the smart guy he is, mentioned that he was from the band Weezer in order to score a date with one of them. The problem was, none of the Japanese girls remembered Weezer, so he had a dilemma. Should he not make another album that would sound stale and contrived compared to all his other material or make another album so he could, maybe, pick up chicks. Rivers hadn't had a date for like five years so he decided to make another album. Now Rivers couldn't get his original bassist to come along, Matt Sharp, who was off making better music with The Rentals. So Rivers replaced him with another nerd so no one would notice. They sat down and were wondering what course they would take with the new album, but Rivers, being the God he is among his fans, interrupted and said they should make a word for word ripoff of their fan favorite original album, lots of people would buy it and it would rock the house.Rivers was partly right, it did sell lots and lots of copies that were soon sold to used record stores across the country, for good reason too. There are two good songs on here, Oh Girlfriend! and Island In The Sun, but neither come close to comparing with anything off the blue album or Pinkerton for that matter. The album sounds all pleasant too, which sounds all fake and stuff because you know Weezer can't be happy because their nerds and there is no way. They're supposed to be all gloomy and doomy. Then they have all these lame RAWK songs like Hash Pipe which again aren't Weezer's forte. Yeah, Weezer from here on out suck.
Upbeat, fun, but way too short April 29, 2004 Brian A. Schar (Menlo Park, CA United States) If you liked the Blue Album, you'll like the Green Album. It's chock full of catchy pop songs that are much more in the spirit of the Blue Album than Pinkerton. "Don't Let Go" and "Photograph" lead off, and are both high-powered, guitar-driven rockers that set a strong pace for this CD. There's not a weak song on here. The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is its length. 28 minutes? Even LPs and 8-track tapes had more than 28 minutes of music on them. This should have been combined with "Maladroit" and released as a single CD of a more reasonable length.
